Phillip Island Nature Park advise that Short-tailed Shearwater fledings will be leaving their nests from about 21st April to 8th May, and trying their wings for the first time. These Birds fly between Alaska and Phillip Island every year to breed.  Phillip Island is home to approximately one million Shearwaters, about one eighth of the world's total Shearwater population.

In an effort to reduce the number of Mutton Birds killed on the road, PINP are currently trialling a program which involves erecting 'Care for our wildlife' signs and blue hatched line markings to create a visible conservation zone on a section of Woolamai Beach Road, south of The Cranny.

We urge all members and visitors to Woolamai Beach to drive carefully, particularly at this time - dusk through to dawn.  If you should come across an injured bird please contact the Ranger's Office on 5951 2800.
